A Fresh Collaboration: Tasca Do Ricky & RiaFresh Bring the Taste of the Sea to Every Salad

Tasca Do Ricky is excited to announce a new collaboration with RiaFresh, a local producer dedicated to growing fresh, sustainable greens in the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Through this collaboration, we’re proud to introduce Salicornia, also known as samphire, into our kitchen — a remarkable coastal plant that perfectly complements our existing salad selections.

Often referred to as “sea asparagus”, Salicornia grows naturally in the Algarve’s salt marshes, absorbing the minerals and vitality of the sea. Its crisp texture and subtle saltiness add a refreshing twist to our salads, enhancing their flavour with a true taste of the Algarve coast.

But Salicornia offers more than just great taste — it’s rich in proteins, dietary fibers, vitamin B6 and vitamin E, manganese, and chromium. It contains ß-carotene, lutein, phenols, flavonoids, and tannins. It is a source of zinc, which contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system. Its anti-inflammatory and heart-supportive benefits make it a standout ingredient among natural superfoods.

At Tasca Do Ricky, we’ve always believed that good food starts with good ingredients. By working with RiaFresh, we’re staying true to our commitment to local sourcing and sustainability — supporting Algarve producers while offering our guests fresher, healthier, and more authentic dishes.

From now on, you’ll find the crisp, ocean-inspired flavour of Salicornia featured throughout our salad offerings, bringing a new depth of taste and nutrition to every plate. It’s a small addition with a big impact — a celebration of the Algarve’s natural bounty and a step forward in sustainable, flavourful dining.

Come taste the freshness of the Ria Formosa, now part of every Tasca Do Ricky salad.
